Established in the heart of the
city of San Miguel de Allende, in the State of Guanajuato,
Mexico, Casa de los Angeles is a safe haven for the children
of the streets and those whose mothers come from the
outskirts of town to work or to sell their wares at the
local mercado. Casa de los Angeles was founded on September
18, 2000. It has grown much over the years. Our
current daycare facility serves 73 children from 52
families.
In addition to daycare, the
center provides a place for mothers to find the support and
the help they need to make a good life for themselves and
their children. Casa de los Angeles is able to provide some
medical care for the children, meals, an after-school drop
in center for school-aged children, a food bank, summer
camp, and scholarships.
In late 2003 a construction
program was initiated to build bathrooms and houses for the
families we serve. On January 29, 2005 Casa Santa Clara was
opened. It is a transitional housing program and
emergency shelter for our poorest families. Our newest
project is building our second center which will include
daycare to serve more than 100 children on our waiting list,
a mom's center and free clinic. the new center is
slated to open in August 2008.
Casa is supported by
hundreds of generous people around the world and we have a
growing list of people, also from around the world, who have
traveled to Mexico to volunteer at our facility. We
extend the invitation to you to support the work of Casa de
los Angeles and even to consider coming to visit us in San
Miguel de Allende for a few days, a week, a month or even a
year. We've not gone a day without a volunteer at
Casa!
In October of 2007, an
endowment fund for Casa de los Angeles was established to
ensure that the poorest families of San Miguel de Allende
will be supported for many, many years to come through the
work of Casa. The endowment fund is growing through
the directed gifts of generous supporters and a particular
annual benefit event. |
